The essentials in 3 points

  • Air-to-water heat pump: CHF 3,000 + CHF 400 per kW (measure M-05), i.e. CHF 7,000 for 10 kW.
  • Geothermal or water-to-water heat pump: CHF 3,000 + CHF 800 per kW (measure M-06), i.e. CHF 11,000 for 10 kW.
  • The application must reach the OCEN at least 14 days before work starts.

2026 scale

The official amounts, measure by measure.

Output taken into account: heat pump output at A-7/W35, capped at 50 W per m². These measures cannot be combined with each other. Hydraulic balancing (MI-16) and replacing decentralised electric or fossil heaters (IP-19) are subsidised separately.

Worked example

A 10 kW house, calculated on the scale.

Fictitious example: a house heated with oil, whose thermal study sets the need at 10 kW, with a heat meter installed.

Air-to-water: 3,000 + 10 × 400 + 1,000
CHF 8,000
Geothermal: 3,000 + 10 × 800 + 1,000
CHF 12,000

The final amount depends on the output set after the study. The net investment after the grant is 100% deductible from taxable income.

Conditions

The conditions to meet before filing.

A certified heat pump

Up to 15 kW, the heat pump must be certified to the heat pump system module standard. Above that, a GSP “heat pump special solution” label, EHPA or an equivalent approved by the SFOE.

Noise checked

The installation complies with federal and cantonal noise rules. In the simplified procedure, a “heat pump noise circle” form validated by an acoustician is attached to the file.

A natural refrigerant

The refrigerants used must be natural. A heat pump containing more than 3 kg is notified to the Federal Office for the Environment.

Correct sizing

The file contains proof of sizing to SIA 384/1, a schematic diagram and a description of the controls. A hydraulic balancing report is handed over at the end of the work.

Procedure

The application, step by step.

  1. 01

    Study and procedure

Depending on the location and type of work, the heat pump follows a simplified procedure with the OCEN or a building permit with the building permits office.

  2. 02

    Grant application

Filed on the Building Programme platform for measures M-05 and M-06, at least 14 days before work starts.

  3. 03

    Notice of start of work

Notice of start of work no later than 14 days before the work in the simplified procedure, 30 days with a building permit.

  4. 04

    Work

You have 24 months from the date the grant decision takes effect to carry out the work.

  5. 05

    Completion file and payment

Hydraulic balancing report and end-of-work documents, then payment of the grant by the State of Geneva.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions on grants in Geneva.

What grant is there for an air-to-water heat pump in Geneva in 2026?

+

CHF 3,000 + CHF 400 per kW up to 70 kW (measure M-05), plus CHF 1,000 if a heat meter is installed. For a 10 kW heat pump: CHF 7,000, or CHF 8,000 with the meter.

What grant is there for geothermal in Geneva?

+

CHF 3,000 + CHF 800 per kW up to 70 kW (measure M-06), plus CHF 1,000 with a heat meter. For a 10 kW heat pump: CHF 11,000, or CHF 12,000 with the meter.

When must the application be filed?

+

At least 14 days before the subsidised work starts. The work must then be carried out within 24 months of the grant decision taking effect.

Is a building permit needed for a heat pump in Geneva?

+

Not always. If the project meets the location and work-type conditions, a simplified procedure with the OCEN is enough. Otherwise, a building permit is needed.

Does SIG pay an extra grant?

+

The SIG-éco21 programme offers its own heat pump grants, with specific conditions. Some Geneva municipalities also fund these measures. Check with them before signing.

Is the remaining cost tax-deductible?

+

Yes. The net investment, meaning the cost of the work minus the grant, can be 100% deducted from taxable income.
