Installation types

Two installation methods, depending on your roof.

Detail of roof-mounted solar panels on tiled roof, I.ON installation

Roof-mounted

The most common solution in Switzerland. Panels are fixed above your existing roof covering (tiles, standing seam metal) on rails. Compatible with most roofs, cost-effective, and expandable if you want to enlarge the installation later.

  • · From 16'800 CHF for 8 kWp (after subsidies)
  • · Installation in 2 to 4 days
  • · Existing roof kept intact beneath the rails
Integrated solar panels replacing the roof covering

Integrated roof panels

Panels replace the roof covering (tiles or slates) and form the new roof surface. The preferred solution for a full renovation or new build: a clean finish with no visible added thickness from the ground.

  • · From 18'600 CHF for 8 kWp (after subsidies)
  • · Ideal for renovation or new construction
  • · Premium aesthetic finish

Indicative pricing

How much does a solar installation cost?

The prices below are indicative, after deduction of the federal one-time payment and applicable cantonal grants (Vaud, Geneva, Fribourg, Neuchâtel). The detailed quote is drawn up based on your roof, your consumption and the grants available in your canton.

Solar battery storage installed by I.ON

Battery storage

A battery to increase your self-consumption.

Without a battery, your system produces during the day and most of the surplus is sold back to the grid at a rate lower than your purchase price. With a battery, you store daytime production for use in the evening. The self-consumption rate typically rises from 30 % to 60–80 % depending on sizing.

We install lithium-ion batteries from BYD HVS+, Huawei LUNA2000, Fronius Reserva, Tesla Powerwall 3 and Enphase IQ Battery, sized to your evening consumption. 10-year manufacturer warranty.

Equipment installed

The manufacturers we work with.

Inverters

Fronius (Austria), SMA (Germany), SolarEdge (Israel), Enphase (microinverters). Manufacturer warranties of 10 to 25 years.

Panels

Jinko Solar, AIKO Energy, LONGi Solar, Arres Solar. Efficiency 20–22 %, 25-year warranty at 80 % of rated output.

Batteries

BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS+, Huawei LUNA2000, Fronius Reserva, Tesla Powerwall 3, Enphase IQ Battery. Capacities from 5 to 38 kWh, 10-year manufacturer warranty.

Our approach

From study to monitoring.

  1. Roof assessment

Satellite analysis + on-site visit. Measurement of orientation, tilt, and shading factors (chimneys, trees, neighbouring buildings). Calculation of the annual solar potential specific to your home.

  2. System sizing

Matching the output to your current AND future consumption (heat pump, electric vehicle). Choice between roof-mounted and integrated systems based on your roof and long-term plans.

  3. Subsidies and admin

Submission of the Pronovo one-time payment application, cantonal grants (Vaud, Fribourg, Neuchâtel depending on canton) and municipal grants. Notification to the grid operator (Romande Energie, SIG, Groupe E).

  4. Installation and connection

2 to 4 days on site depending on size. Scaffolding, panel installation, wiring, inverter, monitoring. The final grid connection is completed with the operator within a few hours.

  5. Commissioning and monitoring

Demonstration of the monitoring system (mobile app). Adjustment of parameters to maximise self-consumption. Production monitoring during the first year with corrections if needed.

Grants and subsidies

Four layers of cumulative support.

Pronovo one-time payment

Federal grant paid once after commissioning. Fixed + variable amount per kWp, around 320–380 CHF/kWp in 2026 for small installations. For 8 kWp: ~3,000 CHF.

Cantonal grants

Vaud, Fribourg, Neuchâtel active in 2026. Geneva relies mainly on municipal schemes. Typical amounts 800–2,000 CHF for an 8–10 kWp installation, sometimes more with cumulated municipal aid.

Tax deduction

The net cost after grants is 100 % deductible from taxable income. Tax saving of 25 to 35 % of the net cost depending on your marginal rate. Often 3,500 to 5,000 CHF for an average household.

Global renovation bonus

If the installation is part of a broader project (PV + heat pump + insulation), an additional cantonal bonus of 15–30 % may apply to the sum of individual grants.

Frequently asked questions

Everything we get asked before signing.

How long does a solar panel installation take?

+

For a single-family home, the installation typically takes 2 to 4 days. The roof remains functional throughout the work and the home's electrical supply is only cut for a few hours during the final grid connection.

What is the lifespan of solar panels?

+

The panels we install (Jinko, AIKO, LONGi, Arres Solar) are guaranteed for 25 years at 80 % of their initial output. Their effective lifespan generally exceeds 30 years with annual degradation below 0.5 %.

What is the return on investment for a solar installation in Western Switzerland?

+

The payback period averages 7 to 10 years for a well-sized residential installation, taking into account cantonal grants and the federal one-time payment. Beyond that, production remains essentially free until end of panel life.

What grants can I receive?

+

You can combine the federal one-time payment (approximately 350 to 450 CHF/kWp depending on size), variable cantonal grants (Vaud, Geneva, Fribourg, Neuchâtel) and tax deductions on the investment. I.ON handles all administrative steps.

Do I need a battery storage system?

+

A battery increases your self-consumption from 30 % to 80 % depending on sizing. The return on investment for a battery is longer (12 to 15 years) but it provides partial independence in the event of a grid outage. We assess each case individually.

What happens in the event of a fault?

+

Any drop in production is detected by our 24/7 monitoring and addressed by our in-house team within 48 hours. Fronius, SMA and SolarEdge inverters benefit from manufacturer warranties of 10 to 25 years.
