Why us

Air conditioning is an installation question, not a product question.

The good models have existed for fifteen years. Daikin Emura, Daikin Stylish, Mitsubishi MSZ-LN and Panasonic Etherea are reliable, quiet and efficient. The real difference over 15 years is the installation work: the outdoor unit placement, the quality of the refrigerant circuit, the tightness of the wall penetrations, and the distances to neighbours.

Our approach rests on three principles. Visit before quoting. Size precisely to avoid short cycling. And explain to the client what they are buying, because a well-installed unit whose limits are understood is more useful than an oversized system sold as a miracle. If we think an air-to-water heat pump would be more relevant for your project, we say so.

Our approach

From study to commissioning.

  1. Visit and study

Room measurements, identification of south-west exposed walls, verification of possible routes for refrigerant pipes between indoor and outdoor unit. Study of outdoor unit placement and distances to neighbouring windows.

  2. Model selection

Selection of the unit (Daikin Emura, Daikin Stylish Blackwood, Mitsubishi MSZ-LN, Panasonic Etherea) based on thermal needs, acceptable noise level and desired aesthetics. Precise sizing to avoid oversizing.

  3. Administrative procedures

Municipal notification if required, co-ownership agreement in PPE buildings, validation of planning rules in classified zones. We handle the entire file.

  4. Installation and commissioning

1 to 2 days for a single-split, 2 to 4 days for a multi-zone system. Includes drilling, refrigerant pipe routing, electrical connection, circuit pressurisation and testing.

  5. Demonstration and follow-up

Full demonstration at handover: operating modes, mobile app, scheduling. Optional annual maintenance to preserve the warranty and performance.

Indicative pricing

How much does air conditioning cost in 2026?

All-in prices for standard residential installations in Western Switzerland. The detailed quote depends on the brand, output, refrigerant pipe routing and outdoor unit accessibility.

Who is it for

Four situations that justify air conditioning.

South-facing home

Unbearable summer heat in the living room and master bedroom. A reversible 5 kW single-split in the living room + a 2.5 kW single-split in the bedroom is enough to transform summer comfort.

Office or studio in a top-floor apartment

Exposed open-plan office, air conditioning essential in summer. A discreet split above the door, controllable remotely to pre-heat or pre-cool before arrival.

Home with existing solar panels

Ideal pairing: air conditioning runs at peak demand in summer, exactly when solar is producing the most. Near-zero running cost in summer for the self-consumed share. Excellent ROI on the unit.

Periodically occupied home

Holiday home, short-term rentals, occasional remote working: reversible air conditioning with remote control allows the home to be brought to temperature before occupants arrive.

Grants and tax

No subsidies, but often cost-effective.

No cantonal grant for air conditioning

Swiss cantonal programmes subsidise fossil heating replacements (air-to-water heat pump, geothermal), not stand-alone air conditioning units. A reversible unit used as the primary heating source does not generally qualify for these programmes either.

Partial tax deduction

Replacing direct electric heating with a reversible air conditioning unit (which is more efficient) may be considered a deductible energy investment in some cantons. To be confirmed with your accountant depending on your canton of residence.

Operating cost savings

The economic case for reversible air conditioning is not in grants: it is in running costs. SEER 8–9 vs an outdated system at SEER 3 = 60–70 % less consumption. Coupled to solar panels, summer is almost free.

Frequently asked questions

Air conditioning: what you need to know.

What is a reversible air conditioning unit?

+

A reversible air conditioning unit (or air-to-air heat pump) reverses its cycle to cool in summer and heat in the shoulder seasons. It effectively replaces a direct electric heater while providing excellent summer comfort. The heating efficiency (COP) remains above 4 in the majority of cases.

How much does air conditioning installation cost?

+

For a single-zone wall-mounted split (one room), budget between 3,500 and 5,500 CHF all-in. For a multi-zone system (3 to 5 rooms), between 9,000 and 14,500 CHF depending on brand and technology. The quote is prepared after a technical visit.

Is a permit required to install air conditioning?

+

In Western Switzerland, installing an outdoor unit may require a declaration or permit depending on the municipality and co-ownership. I.ON handles all administrative steps. For buildings in co-ownership (PPE), the approval of the owners' assembly is generally required before installation.

What is the lifespan of an air conditioning unit?

+

The Daikin, Mitsubishi and Panasonic units we install have a typical lifespan of 12 to 20 years with regular maintenance. The manufacturer warranty is 5 years, extended to 10 years on certain premium references.

Does air conditioning consume a lot of electricity?

+

Modern models (class A+++ or SEER ≥ 8) consume three to five times less than an old unit. Coupled to your solar installation, summer consumption can be almost entirely covered by your solar production — at the moment it is highest.

What noise level does the outdoor unit produce?

+

Modern Daikin, Mitsubishi, Panasonic units produce 40 to 50 dB(A) at 1 metre, equivalent to a library. With careful placement (at least 3 metres from neighbouring windows, appropriate orientation), Swiss noise protection (OPB) standards are met without difficulty in residential areas.

Can air conditioning heat the whole house in winter?

+

Technically yes, but it is rarely the right choice in the Swiss climate. The COP drops in severe cold and air distribution from a split is less uniform than underfloor heating. For primary heating, an air-to-water heat pump remains preferable. Reversible air conditioning is ideal as a supplement or for shoulder seasons.

Is annual maintenance necessary?

+

Recommended to preserve the warranty and performance. Budget 200 to 350 CHF/year for a single-split, 350 to 600 CHF for a multi-zone. Maintenance includes filter cleaning, refrigerant pressure check and electrical connection inspection.

Are refrigerants environmentally friendly?

+

Units installed since 2024 use R32, whose global warming potential is three times lower than the previous R410A. Future European regulations will push towards R290 (propane) with very low impact, already available on certain premium references.
