Greater Lausanne combines a large stock of detached villas (Mont-sur-Lausanne, Épalinges, Chailly, Vidy) with a substantial number of condominium buildings (PPE — the Swiss equivalent of freehold flats). A growing share of our recent projects involves collective self-consumption (RCP) on apartment buildings: solar production shared between co-owners, with individual metering and optimised internal billing.

Local context
1,500-1,650 hours of sunshine a year. Winter fog is common in the lower part of the agglomeration (Renens, Crissier, Vidy): production dips slightly in December and January, but the effect over the full year is marginal. Mild winters suit air-to-water heat pumps well.
A very varied mix: suburban villas in the outer ring (Mont-sur-Lausanne, Épalinges, Cheseaux), 1960s-90s condominium buildings in the inner belt (Prilly, Renens, Ecublens), and larger apartment blocks in the centre. We tailor the strategy to each building type.
Grid operators: Romande Energie (outer ring) and Services Industriels de Lausanne (SIL) for the city. Connection lead times of 4-6 weeks. SIL supports RCP (collective self-consumption groupings) with administrative assistance.
I.ON advice
On a condominium of 8 to 20 units, an RCP lets all co-owners share the building's solar production and sell the surplus internally (below grid rates). Typical payback of 6-9 years, versus 9-12 years for a standard grid feed-in. We handle the engineering, the RCP agreement and the individual meters.
EV commuters on the Lausanne ↔ Geneva / Bern routes get particular value from an 11 kW charger coupled to PV through a smart energy manager (EMMA, SolarEdge, Fronius Wattpilot). Solar charging takes priority during the day, topped up overnight at off-peak rates.
Many villas in Mont-sur-Lausanne and Épalinges date from the 1970s and were never insulated. Before fitting a heat pump, commission a CECB energy audit (the cantonal energy certificate): 10,000 CHF of roof insulation can halve the heat pump capacity you need and lift the COP by 30%.
2026 subsidies
Federal subsidy of 320-380 CHF/kWp for residential systems. An enhanced one-off grant applies to large condominium installations (>30 kWp).
Canton Vaud and the City of Lausanne both offer PV and heat pump grants that can be combined. Condominiums receive a dedicated RCP bonus to encourage collective self-consumption.

Frequently asked questions
An RCP is a legal structure recognised under the federal Energy Act that lets the co-owners of a condominium jointly consume the building's solar production, with individual meters. Surplus production is sold to the grid (SIL or Romande Energie). We support the creation of the RCP, draft the agreement and install the metering infrastructure.
Yes, in 90% of cases — provided the insulation is at least average. If the thermal envelope is weak, we start with a CECB audit (the official cantonal building energy certificate) to identify priorities. An investment in roof insulation + heat pump + PV often makes more financial sense than a heat pump alone.
10 to 14 weeks on average. SIL grid connections are slightly faster than Romande Energie (4-5 weeks versus 5-6). The on-site phase is similar in both cases: 2-4 days for residential PV, 1-2 weeks for a heat pump including removal of the old boiler.
