A lake foehn effect and a mild microclimate all year round. Sunshine levels are among the canton's highest (1,600-1,750 h/year). South-facing roofs with lake views offer outstanding solar potential — as long as shading from vines and tall trees is properly accounted for.
Part of the area is UNESCO-listed (the Lavaux vineyards), with strict visual restrictions in the wine-growers' villages. For villas in ordinary residential zones (Pully, Blonay, La Tour-de-Peilz), steep roof pitches deliver excellent yields. Our approach: integrated solar tiles (Sunstyle or Megasol) for buildings visible from the lake, full-black on-roof mounting elsewhere.

I.ON advice
The Lavaux communes (Bourg-en-Lavaux, Chexbres, Rivaz, Saint-Saphorin, Puidoux) require full in-roof integration. Solar tiles (Sunstyle, Megasol, Autarq) are the only accepted solution. Expect a ~30-40% premium over on-roof mounting, but permits are granted almost as a matter of course.
In Pully, Lutry and Vevey, housing density often means close neighbours. Choose outdoor units rated below 40 dB(A) at 1 m (Daikin Altherma 3 R, Mitsubishi Ecodan Quiet) and orient them acoustically away from neighbouring properties to head off any dispute.
Lavaux and the Riviera still have plenty of oil boilers over 20 years old. Canton Vaud is planning a phased ban by 2030. Pairing a heat pump with PV now lets you capture the replacement grant before the rules tighten.
2026 subsidies
320-380 CHF/kWp for small installations. Single payment 2-4 months after commissioning.
Vaud pays a top-up PV grant and funds heat pumps through the Buildings Programme. Vevey and Montreux run their own bonus schemes for buildings in dense urban zones.
Canton Vaud recognises the extra cost of architectural integration on buildings in protected zones. A supplementary grant covers up to 15% of the documented additional cost.

Frequently asked questions
Yes, but only with full in-roof integration (solar tiles or integrated thin-film). On-roof mounting is not permitted within the UNESCO-listed perimeter. We handle the permit application within this specific framework.
Older villas usually have good thermal mass but only moderate insulation. A high-temperature air-to-water heat pump (Stiebel Eltron WPL or Daikin Altherma 3 H HT) lets you keep the existing radiators without renovating first.
For an installation within the UNESCO Lavaux perimeter, allow 4 to 8 weeks for the public-consultation procedure. Outside the listed zone, the standard lead time is 2-4 weeks.
